Sunrise Acres Egg Farms Our Products
About Us
History
Sunrise Acres is a local family egg farm from Hudsonville, Michigan. Our farm was started by Marvin and June Patmos with 100 chickens back in 1949. Marvin hand collected the eggs and took them downtown Grand Rapids to sell them door to door. Now in the third generation of the family and over 65 years later, we feel blessed and are thankful to continue to be able to care for our hens, the land, and produce quality eggs for local communities to enjoy!
Ingredients We Use
What We Do
We are highly sustainable with our hands on nearly every step it takes to bring an egg to your doorstep and we recycle everything we can.
We grow our own corn and soybeans, along with purchasing corn from local West Michigan farmers, specifically to meet the needs of our birds. Farming our own land assures us of the quality of the feed and gives us a peace of mind knowing exactly where the grains being fed to our chickens come from.
These fresh crops are then made into our vegetarian chicken feed in our own Patmos Feed Mill. The diet of a hen is the most essential component to the quality of the egg. We feed our hens a complete vegetarian diet, with no hormones, antibiotics, or any animal by-products! Farming our own crops and having our own Feed Mill has allowed us to manage the needs of our birds at the same time we control their nutrition. We can understand what diet our chickens need to be fed to remain healthy and happy and can manage those changes at our Mill.
We receive all of our chicks from a day old and raise them using specialized care that evolves to meet their needs as they grow older.
The eggs produced from our hens are then handled safely by our dedicated Sunrise Acres team who wash, sanitize, grade, and package all of our eggs.
Lastly, we proudly market and ship our eggs with our own Sunrise Acres truck fleet. We believe having our hands in every step ensures quality in our product and great service to our customers.
Our Practices
We believe strongly in caring for our hens to the best of our ability while being able to produce a high quality, low cost protein source for families to enjoy. We undergo an independent third party audit that studies and inspects every aspect of animal welfare. As our father and grandfather has always stressed, “Taking good care of our hens is just the right thing to do.”
We know food safety is critical for consumers and we take it highly seriously as a farm to insure we can provide the safe, quality, tasty egg to enjoy without the worry. Our farm is regulated by the FDA, USDA, and UEP for animal welfare and food safety. Our egg processing facilities are Safe Quality Food Level 2 certified as well as have a full HACCP plan. All of our eggs are washed, sanitized, checked for dirty eggs and any imperfections, and weighed specifically to meet their assigned grade.
We also believe we have a mandate to be good stewards of our land and resources. Nothing on our farm goes to waste and even our chicken manure is sold as coveted fertilizer to farmers, including many organic farmers throughout the state. We voluntarily participate in the Michigan Agricultural Environmental Assurance program (MAEAP) program that helps farms prevent agricultural pollution risks and work closely with the Michigan DEQ. We’ve embraced the newest technologies to lessen our environmental footprint, such as LED lighting, heat reclamation, as well as other energy saving technologies.
